December, 2006

Dear Michael:

I wanted to thank you again for your time and assistance with our tours. We greatly enjoyed our stay in Pasadena and you made my job easy, which allowed me to have fun with my group!

Michael, I can't thank you enough for doing such a great job on filming the wheelchair tap dancers.  You caught the feelings and expressions of the dancers, and the joyful mood of the group.  I am impressed with your patience and the amount of time you took filming as well as editing.  You have all the skills and are creative, too.  A winning combination.

Hi Michael,

Thanks you so much for playing the piano tonight. So many people told me how impressed they were with your playing.

February 17, 2006

Michael, Just now I finished looking at your Maui pictures. I am a bit stunned. Ok...sure it is your talent that produces those results. But still, the material you had to work with says a lot: I am amazed that Maui is so breath-taking. I had no idea. Sure I've heard it's gorgeous. But those pictures just took my breath away. And made me think "Man, ho man, what am I missing? What am I doing being here?"
And so, my mind begins scrambling and thinking and well, I guess it's getting time to do some more travelling. I'm not getting any younger, time is passing, and there's a lot out there for me to see. And to experience. Thank you dear friend for the wake-up call.

Hi everyone:

We’d like to thank everyone for their help on last night’s “Saving Public Access Show.”  We had a number of firsts last night which were incredibly well done!

2)      Louise used the teleprompter

3)      Michael Durand did a testimonial for our show

4)      Janice ran the teleprompter

5)      Stevi worked as a camera operator

6)      Kate worked as our make-up artist

7)      Gerald and Kevin worked on our team

8)      Conchita and Gloria are going to learn Final Cut Pro so that we can edit the show

Everyone of our team helped so much!

In addition to the above, thanks to Michael Durand for a great job directing, Bozana who kept us on track as stage manager, Jenny who helped out  ironing and Rich who repaired parts of the set that were damaged.

 Michael:

First of all, many, many thanks for the time you gave us both as a director and as an editor.  You are such a professional that it was wonderful working with you.

Now hopefully we'll be able to get the show on Channel 56 quickly so that we can get the information out to people.

Again, thank you so much for your guidance along this public access journey.

Dear Michael,

Thank you for creating the atmosphere for the "Field of Dreams" feeling. It was so much fun to have a live person playing the keyboard right on our field. And a talented one at that! You were FABULOUS! Best Opener I have ever seen! From the sound of it, it was the best in Pasadena Southwest Little League history. From the bottom of my heart - THANKS!

- Donna DeFazio, President, Pasadena Southwest Little League

Great pics!  Thanks for sharing.  What a beautiful downtown. Pasadena has a lot more charm than I was aware of.  Neat old
buildings, really lovely.  Looks like they went all out for Chinese New Year!  Cool parade. - Janet (Los Altos)

Great photos. - Wendy, (Pasadena)

Michael -- your pictures of the lunar new year parade, etc., are wonderful.  I love the really saturated reds in one dragon and in the antherium flowers.  Also, a truly beautiful photo of the queen of the parade (orange dress, tiara) and friend -- both women are so alive and vibrant.  You do a great job in documenting the goings on in Pasadena. - Gloria (Pasadena)

Thanks, Michael, for the great photos!  We do have some lovely, colorful events here in Pasadena!  - Starla (Pasadena)

Loved your photos. - Bonnie (Pasadena)

JOHN REINER

From my college journalist years. One of my earliest and still one of my favorite letters.

- Michael Durand

Dear Mike,

Just a personal note to let you know how much I enjoyed working with you on the April Fools issue. Never have I had more fun than working at the paper. This experience will remain a fond memory with me for many years to come and possibly be the most outstanding in my Stony Brook career.

I had always looked forward to working with you in some capacity and I want you to know I was not let down. Even during the ungodly hours of the morning I refused to leave as I was having too much fun. The final product was excellent and much of the credit goes to you. I hope to work with you again and invite you to create some cartoons so we both take credit.

- John Reiner, 1976

John Reiner has been a world-famous cartoonist for over 30 years. He draws "The Lockhorns," Parade magazine's "The Laugh Parade" and many other internationally syndicated comic strips. Here is a link to some of his work: http://www.lambiek.net/reiner_john.htm

The parents of a friend were like most couples in America - huge fans of "The Lockhorns" comics. In the late 1990's, when Diane's father, Bob was in ill health, John was kind enough to draw a Get Well note:

Back in the mid 1970's at Stony Brook, I was the Feature/Arts Director for Statesman, the student newspaper of the State University of New York at Stony Brook.  I was responsible for the Feature and Arts departments as well as a four-page weekly magazine section called "Take Two." John Reiner was a contributing artist who took on an assignment to draw a graphic demonstrating the new pull-out calendar page. The instructions were a little complicated: Get two newspapers. Open to the centerfold and remove. Get a second newspaper. Take out the second centerfol. On one side of each centerfold is the top of a wall poster, the other side the bottom.

John Reiner drew the cover and featured me getting wrapped up in my own arms and legs trying to manipulate the wall poster. That year, hundreds of dorm room walls were decorated with the wall poster of campus photos plus important phone numbers and dates.
